The Night Before The Election

T'was the night before the election, and all through the house,

Mommy and Daddy were fighting.

One of them will likely end up on the couch.

The yard signs are planted in the lawns with great care,

In hopes that their candidate will be President next year.

You are nestled, all snug in your bed.

While I dream of punching your dad in his head.

Cause' one of us likes Hillary and the other likes Trump,

And Mama wonders if she should just sit down and get drunk.

This election is awful, like shit on a platter.

What's wrong with our country, what the hell is the matter?

Out of the window, I threw the TV with a crash.

Out on the street, it hit and it smashed.

The media is stupid, they totally suck.

No matter who wins, we're electing a schmuck.

But what to my disgusted eyes should appear,

But my neighbors outside in their yard drinking beer.

They offered me one, and we drank together and laughed.

And I realized then, this election's got us off track.

It doesn't matter who wins, neither gives a shit about us.

It's our neighbors, friends, and family we trust.

So stick a fork in me baby, I'm totally done.

I'm not mad anymore. I just want to have fun.

Let's pop us some corn and prepare for the show.

But before we start, pour out a lil' liquor for Janet Reno.

I love you.
